Education Initiatives
Our center's primary purpose is to provide educational rehabiliation to Lebanese and Syrian refugee students that got left behind in their studies.
The civil war in Syria that began in 2011 created a serious disruption to the education of most Syrian students. As their families fled to Lebanon for safety, survival often took priority over continuing their children's education. Many students missed years or more of schooling due to the war. With recent economic and COVID disruptions that also affected the ability of Lebanese students to continue their own studies, we are trying to help fill that need as well.
Our school has over 50 children currently enrolled in classes. Our classes are daily focused tutoring sessions that help these children get up to the proficiency of the grade level they should be at based on their age. We tutor them in reading, math, science, Arabic and other core curriculum items mandated by the Lebanese Ministry of Education.
Our program's goal is to help these children make up for lost years, and be able to be enrolled in a formal school to continue their studies with their peers at an age-appropriate level. We want to see both Lebanese and Syrian refugee students re-enter school and complete their education up to high school.
As of 2023 we have successfully helped place 20 children back into regular school, and we hope to help even morein the years to come!
We also include a Bible study and chapel service for these children. We want to educate them not only on their school curriculum, but also on the love of Jesus Christ for them as found in the Bible. Throughout the year we also try to do community outreaches with stories, activities, games and Bible lessons for children. The children love these times that often bring joy to their difficult lives as refugees.
